About Me

Hello! I am Ali Farah and I am running for Columbia Heights City Council.

My family and I have made Columbia Heights our home because we love our local schools, restaurants, parks and most of all the people of this amazing city.

I am a teacher at North Park School for Innovation, one of the three elementary schools here in Columbia Heights, and it is a joy to work everyday with the wonderful families in our district.

When I came to this country as an immigrant, I only spoke a little bit of English. I made my home here, learned the language, went to school, earned a Master’s degree in education and now I teach in our schools. This country has given me so much and now I want to give back by serving in local government.

I know what it is like to have to navigate our government systems as an English language learner. It can be really difficult to find a job, get enrolled in services, find a place to live, get medical care, etc when you didn’t grow up here and don’t know where to start.

Because I have experienced those challenges and I speak English, Somali and Arabic, I will be able to help many in our community, who don’t speak English, to have access to their government officials in their own language. I will work to bring the needs and voices of our underrepresented neighbors to the table and be a city councilperson for all of our community.

My main priorities if I am elected to the City Council are

  • Community Engagement
  • Public Safety and Community Policing
  • Affordable Housing
  • Supporting Local Businesses and Economic Development
  • Partnering for Strong Schools

If you have questions for me, please reach out, I love to listen to the needs and concerns of the people of Columbia Heights.

I hope you will vote for me for Columbia Heights City Council on November 5th!
